The music in POP reruns....

…has been totally replaced with generic 90's pop! Ruins some of the episodes for me, such as U4EA. Plus Brenda and Dylan's early breakup drama without "Losing My Religion" is just NOT the same.

Why did they do this? POP used to show these without a revamped soundtrack. I assume budget and/or rights.

reply

The music rights are supposedly expensive. They did the same thing with the DVD release, years back.

Ugh. That sucks. I've been watching this on POP. But I never saw the show back in the day, I don't know what i'm missing. I'm surprised they'd change the music for tv syndication. usually those rights are squared away.

Im pretty sure you could find a torrent out there of the show with the original music. Can´t be as bad as the music they had on the DVDs. It was like generic punk music, that didn´t fit with the show at all.

reply

That's how I feel about the POP reruns. Might have to rely on other sources now. Or just not watch anymore, lol. The older I get the more annoying some the shows get anyway.

It is weird watching a show about teens at my age. That said, I was a child when it first aired so when I watch it its mainly due to nostalgia.

I think there are three packages: original syndicated package, the DVD version, and streaming.

Pretty sure POP just uses the same streaming package as HULU as it uses no licensed music and skips a lot of episodes completely. It's probably the cheapest way to re-air the show.

I never watched 90210 back in the so I don't know what i'm missing, but considering how much I loved the music of the era, i'm guessing a lot. I'll be livid forever about the strip mine crater they made out of the Dawson's Creek soundtrack.

I hate when they change the music; it totally changes the episode! It's just not the same...

Cut the Cramps out of the Halloween ep....also cut the Flaming Lips in the ep with Valerie’s “mystery” act...but we got Dave Koz, go figure...

Dave Koz!

Happy holidays uncle nuts!

Same to you!

The songs that they changed are not good. It makes it seem like an entirely different episodes!!!

Someone told me that they noticed this with Grey's Anatomy reruns they saw on a Cable Network (not ABC) watching it earlier this year, so I don't think it's as unusual to see happen once an original series goes into syndication.

On a lighter note, I was watching an uploaded episode of "Get a Life" with Chris Elliot which I watched religiously when it aired on Fox TV back in the early 90s and the uploader had to re-edit the video to leave out the intro music by R.E.M. as well as a song featured in the episode "Sky Rockets in Flight" which was part of the episodes running joke and he replaced it with a clip of Beethoven's 9th symphony of all choices LOL
