Why was Dylan never told the truth about his father?

Dylan discovered the truth about his father only by chance, years after his "death". Sure, it was unwise to reveal it to Dylan shortly afterwards, Jack's enemies might have been watching him - he had to look mourning his father genuinely. But after some time, say several months after the dust has settled, why not inform him the truth?

I think telling Dylan the truth could have made things different for him and others. Perhaps the belief that his father was dead, made him (subconsciously?) act in the following seasons, most notably season 4, in such way that alienated Kelly and his other friends - he wouldn't let anyone get too close to him because he feared to get emotionally hurt. It would have also saved him a lot of pain resulting from Toni's death.

why are we not allowed to tell the truth to children about AIDS? 9/11? addiction? gangs? Santa?????

to protect them.

and this also is what happens when [obviously] a teenager has no parent/guardian driving the teenager's bus.

you'd think the fbi would have arrested marchette before baja went to college & started dating his daughter...

I always wondered, why didn't Marchette just tell Dylan he had nothing to do with the death? He would have believed Jack was dead too, and known none of his men did it.

marchette just really enjoyed sticking pistols into people's groins under tables while dining in public.

Actually my understanding is that Marchette did try to kill him and everyone thought he succeeded, including Marchette himself. The FBI put this whole thing up to make everybody think Jack was dead and protect him from further attempted murders.

They never told Dylan for his own safety and for Jack's.

Othewise, the whole Marchette story doesn't make sense.

JUST HORRIBLE WRITERS WITH NOTHING CREATIVE TO DO ADDED THIS DUMB STORYLINE WHICH MADE THE WHOLE MARCHETE STORYLINE STUPID AND NOT COMPREHENSIBLE.

Was Jack McKay meant to be brought back to life years later? Or was that something that they came up with when the show was on it's last leg?

From what I read ( forget where I read it) Jack was always alive and was meant to return a lot sooner, but after Luke Perry left early in season 6 they nixed the plan until his return to the show years later. I am curious how it would have went if it was written in an earlier season.

Also heard that Brenda and Dylan were supposed to have the kid (not Andrea and Jesse)

But when Gabrielle got pregnant in real life....etc they had to switch things around super quick.

They still kept bits which may be why Dylan and Brenda convincingly 'parent' Erica for some scenes whereas Kelly is just annoyed and looks like nag even though she certainly can look after Erin.

Would have made for interesting storylines....Jack learns he has a 'daughter' figures out how to relate to Erica who he is just meeting now. He had only talked to women strictly objects/decoration before!!

Would have had Kevin and Suzane gone--and Dylan Brenda and Jack take care of Erica. become a 'family'.

If Jim and Cindy were leaving, bring in Jack McKay as the reformed ex-con who is starting over as the 'parent' figure and learning how to finally raise a kid would have been 'unique'

Have Jack explain 'menstruation' deal with parent teacher night...hah!! That would have made for interesting stories

it was new writers...etc who did not know what they were doing and did not want continuity.
