My favorite was John. He was pretty much the main reason I watched this movie. I really really like James Spader too, but he didn't have the same impressive look and craving image as John. I liked the movie all around too, it was a classic. James Spader was pretty much in the earlier years of the 80's a member of the brat pack along with Andrew McCarty, Molly Ringwald, Robert Downey Jr. & Jon Cryor.. those were all the brats from the 60's and Peter who was born in the mid 50's are much adult then they are. Which makes sense in the movie too. This wasn't the first time I saw him in a movie. I saw Mr. Deeds a couple of years ago and I liked him pretty much, and then in other movies can't really remember, then some episodes as the really nice father in OC. So he's been a very recognizable person in the movie business. He's pretty much like Kevin Maclachlan, always having those creep *beep* guys who's only out for sex, but look at him in Twin Peaks. One of my favorites too.

I liked Peter Gallagher in "The OC", very much, but he doesn't appeal in this. I suppose that is because he was acting the role of someone rather unappealing. Btw, did you think he was rather overreacting in the scene where he finds out Ann and Graham have been up to something, or do you think he was trying to cover up his lack of real emotion about Ann?

Overreacting? I actually kinda thought that he was just trying to act the part of a loyal and faithful husband. To not raise an eyebrow, perhaps? Or even if he wasn't, I took that as him being possessive of Ann despite everything else.

Btw, no wonder I was thinking that he looked really familiar. Couldn't quite pinpoint from where I'd seen him until you mentioned the OC. :)

John was a total hypocrite, to be annoyed at Ann's possible adultery when he had definitely committed adultery with her own sister!

Peter Gallagher was great on The OC - I miss it.

I've had another thought...It all goes back to the title of the movie itself: Sex, Lies and Videotape. John had his business and his lies and of course the sex with Ann's sister. In this movie, however, the videotapes that Graham makes are, in a way, a means of truth.

A level of truth that is told and a level of intimacy that is met, all without sex itself, and I'm actually guessing that John knew that from what Ann's sister (can't quite remember her name now) said. When all is said and done, I think that John's not someone who knows how to find that connection in the equation without sex being part of it. To him, sex is the truth. And anything that lies outside this is the kind of truth that he despises.

Just a thought though ;)
