Doesn't it contradict the movie?

The ending, I mean. It gives the impression that men and women can't be just friends. I know that because they built a friendship first they're gonna be a couple and friends at the same time. But "just" is the key word here.

It contradicts Sally but stands by Harry's statement.

I think mister Reiner's premise for the film is that men and women can't be just just friends, and that there's always a sexual tension somewhere.

When was the last time you went with a person of the opposite sex to a ball game or race or some event? Answer; you haven't, unless it was a work assignment.

reply

I do hang out with women and I don't have feelings for them. Is there sexual tension? No. I have fantasized with them once or twice, but that's a different thing.

But that's his whole point. If you took a girl bowling, not as a date, but an after work thing to kill time until traffic died or something, you wouldn't pal around with her. You'd always have sex (according to Reiner) somewhere on your mind.

It may not be there consciously, but you admitted that you've fantasized about those other females you've spent time with.

Again, that's according to the director. I have to admit, I'm not sure I believe him either. But it makes for a good sales pitch to sell the film.

reply

Fantasizing doesn't mean I'll fall in love. Or even develop a crush.

reply

Very true, but it is, in Reinger's opinion "sexual tension". Go figure.

One of my best friends is a guy. We've been friends since we were about seven and six. I moved in across the street. We have known each other so long that the thought of us together is gross. We almost view each other a family so, yes, men and women CAN be friends depending on the man or woman.

And there's your answer: the only way is if you're family or known eachother for so long it feels like family.

This past April. I went to a ball game with my husband and brother.

IF, however, we are excluding relatives (since you didn't specify), it would be about four years ago, when I went to a ball game with a good male friend of mine. We were both with other people at the time and still are.
