Harry's foot placement...

There was a time many moons ago when a sex scene was referred to indirectly in a movie or on TV one party had to have their foot on the floor while in bed since this was assumed to make sex impossible (apparently the censors never watched much porn.) Just before Harry and Sally were to engage themselves we see that Harry does indeed have his foot on the floor. Then again maybe he was just prepared for a quick run out the door. Perhaps they did this knowing the movie would eventually be seen on TV. Or was Billy Crystal placating a possibly jealous spouse. We'll never know.

As an apologist turned authority I don't defend my comments because I am always right.

I know why! I just watched the commentary of When Harry Met Sally on Blu-ray, and Billy Crystal said he did that to show that Harry had "one foot out the door". So that was the answer!

This is the subject of a very funny scene in House Calls, where Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson go into myriad contortions to see if it can be done. Anothr first rate romantic comedy.

In the movie Something's Gotta Give Jack Nicholson's character keeps one leg over the cover. Jack said in commentary that he usually sleeps that way himself. I can't help but think it is a subconscious "I'm not gonna get trapped here" movement.

This positively infantile preoccupation with bosoms!Terry-Thomas about US 1963.Hasnt changed much!
