Am I the only one who hated this movie?

It was funny the first 15 minutes then it got real dumb. Its the same joke over and over again. After awhile wouldnt a dead guy start stinking to high hell with bodily fluids leaking everywhere? this movie sucks

reply

Actually I thought it was pretty funny when I first saw it (I was about 10), but I caught the first half hour on comedy central recently and it was so F-ing bad! I would actually say the first 15 minutes are the worst (Bernie isn't even killed for quite a while.)

Yes. You are the only person who hated this movie. Weekend at Bernie's ranks among the defining movies, indeed moments, of my entire life. This movie is truly a film that can only really be appreciated by those with an appreciation for truly revolutionary films. Yeah, okay, I'm just *beep* The movie's cool. It's far from the best comedy ever, but it's better than average.

reply

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good. Sure, it's pretty much the same joke, but like a lot of jokes, it gets funnier with every re-telling. High points for me were Larry's "...I give it an 8.3" when Bernie falls over the railing, the entire buoy-banging sequence, and Larry swindling a corpse at Monopoly.

Bernies is one of the funniest movies of all time...ranks up there with a classic like the Karate Kid, I cant stop laughing all throught the movie. Man overboard....Ummmm my ant is very sick...classic...joey your beat

Besides T.V. shows, I'm rarely a 'comedy' person. I love the darker movies for the most part, excluding about four other films, three of which are the Back To the Future Trilogy (and they aren't strictly funny, but I'll count them as such). But this is the BEST comedy I've seen as far as movies go. I think it's fairly funny and watchable- it's not supposed to be a serious, dramatic, or even logical, film.

But I see why you hate it, and you certainly aren't the only one. BELIEVE me, my sister hates it and refuses loudly to watch it with my dad and myself.

If it was my blood, Mommy, would you care a little more?

reply

Probably not the only one- but why did you even watch the whole thing? I loved it and still do. Lame story- ok. But a classic..

The movie was cheesy........funny as well though...

When I saw the trailer in the theater, two thoughts came to mind:

-This does NOT live up to my intellectual standards.
-I can't wait to see it!

I saw it as soon as it was released, and loved it. It's still among my favorite comedies.

The late Steve Allen, who, along with Ernie Kovacs, was the early TV "gold standard," for comedy...and who has written books on comedy...listed it among things that make him laugh.

reply

no, i didnt really like it either. maybe it was just me and my sister but we thought that it was a little bit sick to pretend that bernie was still alive and cart him with you everywhere.

and also, it was so gross when bernies gf or whatever had sex with him when he was dead. cos i guess necrophilia is supposed to be funny or something.

not even andrew mccarthy could save this film for me.

It's definately a guilty pleasure...I like to pop it in the DVD player when I've had a crappy day. It just makes me feel good and lets me relive the padded shoulder days of long ago! WABII was just plain bad.

I saw this movie last weekend cause they metioned it in the best TV show out there:The Office. I saw it 2 times over the weekend. I loved it. When the guy killed Bernie and doesnt see the other 3 there like :I didnt see anything. I was lookign at my whatch and then I'm blind. ITs funny.

I didn't hate it Tallpall, I thought it was funny. But I understand what you're saying. It needed better editing. Some of the scenes just dragged on too long. Like the one in the restaurant when Bernie asks for our two leads to be killed. Also the ones where Richard is trying to flirt with Gwen, they lacked any laughs or substance. I know the director was trying to convey the awkwardness of flirting with a pretty lady, but it just didn't work for me.
