Where is Hampton Island???

Bald Head Island, and Carolina Beach NC. I walked around Bernies beachhouse set that was built on the beach, and of course torn down afterward since it was just a set. A friend of mine was in a band that played at the closing wrap party for the movie and got to meet the whole cast. I had just moved to Wilmington NC at the time which is minutes from those locations. My wife and I still love this movie to this day, cracks us up everytime. Dont know why it rates so low on here though, yeah its not prime stuff but its funny as heck!

I have seen this movie many times and have lives on Long island my entire life. The Hampton Island in the movie is a hybrid of a few places:

1. It was shot in the Carolinas, except he Manhattan Scenes.

2. In New York, There are the famous "hamptons", a wealthy resort area on eastern long island, that many New yorkers frequent the Summer.

3. The "hampton island" in the movie is most likely bason on Fire Island. A barrier island south of long island where Many New Yorkers have Beach houses. While There are a few Towns on Fire Island that are predominantly Gay, the majority of the island is a mix of towns that are Populated by Family's, and singles in there 20's and 30's. Much like te movie there are roving house parties that go up and down a block with a fairly open door policy. The Transportaion is primarily by ferry, and there are almost no cars. There are residents who travel by Golf cart.

4. While there may be a hampton island, ny on google earth. This is a coincidence and is not the area depicted in the movie.

There's a few things I dont get.

In the scene where the guys are jumping on the ferry going to Bernies, there's a Michigan flag on the flagpole in the background, right when they are walking down the ramp to the boat.

When they are on the ferry, there is a sign that says "Mackinaw Ferry" (or something similar). Mackinac (pronounced Mackinaw) is an island between Lower and Upper Michigan, off Lake Huron.

Im convinced part of the movie was also made in Michigan, but for some reason it's not listed in the filming locations.

Wait let me get this straight.............you're comparing one of the most pristine and untouched stretches of the Southern North Carolina coast........with Folly Beach?? ROFL. The developers at Bald Head Island have done everything possible to maintain the natural beauty of the island and it still remains that way to this day...I don't know how you could possibly say that. I practically grew up there as a kid, and I love Weekend at Bernies, but I gotta set you straight on this point. You act as if Bald Head has been turned into Myrtle Beach... nothing could be further from the truth. Theres still only 1 market to buy food at for christs sake....
