I went looking for this all over and most stores don't carry this anymore. I called all the rental chains and no one had it. I remember seeing many copies in Walmart's $5.00 bin. I had to order it on the auction site. So if you see one for sale anywhere, pick it up. Hopefully a new DVD will be issues with additional scenes and a better quality transfer.
NetFlix has Warlock for rental. Amazon shows it for sale at a slight discount. The DVD itself is cheaply made, no artwork on the DVD and the menu from the year one. New World Pictures released the picture in 1991 just as it was going under. Lionsgate now distributes the DVD, mastered around 1997, and won't invest money in an old movie with little sales potential.
Another niche movie similar to Warlock in losing its original distributor is The Hidden (1987), only Warner Brothers eventually got the distribution rights for that movie and did a good job mastering a new DVD release.
Hdnet cleaned up the movie for their channel and it looks great. It is not the same master as the old one, and it hopefully will be no time at all now before they put it on a new DVD. Warlock must have some sales potential however as their is a comic book based on the franchise and this is still the role Julian Sands is most recognized from.
Best Buy is currently selling the DVD. I just bought it the other day. I found my copy up towards the front of the store near the checkout lanes. They were in a cardboard type shelving system, along with numerous other horror movies. The Warlock DVDs are part of the "Fearnet" collection. I paid $9.99 for the DVD. I also bought "Stir of Echoes 2" starring Rob Lowe. It was also part of the Fearnet collection. The DVDs each come in a clear plastic "body bag" with a zipper down the front.
