He jumps into the Whirl wind thing before it closes. I dont know how he returned to the past

Lol, I was wondering the same thing, and why they didn't Redfern and the Warlock end up in the exact same spot in the furture. I guess Redferne missed the window?

And why not at the exact same time? The warlock arrives pretty much a full day ahead of him.

Redferne could very well have landed in the backyard or in a neighbor's yard, and perhaps was knocked unconscious for a longer period of time than the Warlock was *shrugs*. The way the movie is set up, it seems like Redferne arrived a day after the Warlock did. I have a feeling he arrived at the same time, but was out cold until the next evening.

In the original screenplay, Redferne arrives at the same time as the Warlock, but on the other side of town. I believe he lands in the middle of a forest that is on fire and is found by firemen.
