Chica
I can't believe Carla Gugino (who played Chica) was 18 years old in this movie.) I noticed that sometimes the kids roles in movies are played by people over 18 in real life, why is this? Is it that they don't find enough child actors?

Because of child labor laws. People under 18 can only work for so many hours, plus they have to go to school on set.
shareYeah, if an older actress looks young enough to play a pre-teen in a movie, then it makes things a lot easier for the production. The actress can work longer hours, and they are often more experienced than an unknown child actor would be. A lot of movies and TV shows do that. I don't know if anyone has seen the recent film "Flicka", but Alison Lohman, who played the lead girl Katy, was playing a 16-year-old, but she was actually 28 in real life. She looked young enough to portray a teenager, and it was better than hiring a real teen who would be more protected under child labor laws.
shareWow, Carla (aka Chica) looked so young in this movie! I would have never guessed that she was 18 years old...
shareI don't know how old Chica was supposed to be - I think I counted at least fourteen candles on her birthday cake.
But according to the internet movie data base page on Carla Gugino, she was born
on August 29, 1971, and thus turned eighteen in 1989, the year the film was released, and thus was 17 or 18 when it was filmed.
This site says that Troop Beverly Hills was released on March 22, 1989, when Carla Gugino was about seventeen years, six months and 21 days old, and thus she was sixteen or seventeen, not eighteen, when her scenes were filmed.
It seemed to be the opposite once she was an adult, they started casting her in roles older than she was
shareUh - Alan Ruck (Cameron from Ferris Bueller) was 30 when he played a high-schooler. Movies have always done this.
I don't care about money. I just want to be wonderful. - Marilyn Monroe
She's my favorite. I was surprised she and Kelly Martin were in this - I never noticed them before. Tori Spelling, on the other hand, who can forget? although it's interesting to see her pre-plastic surgeries.
shareShe was 16 during filming and according to the trivia, she lied and said she was 14 to get the part.
