Well you can't take a movie filmed in full screen and make it become widescreen... They didn't even HAVE widescreen back then. The "extra material" you wanted doesn't even exist.

No, it wasn't filmed in "full screen." No big screen movies are.
For one thing, look right on the imdb page for this movie and you'll see under aspect ration it says 1.85:1. That's the standard widescreen film format.
And yes they did have widescreen "back then". Widescreen predates 'full screen' because the wide films used for movie projection predates tv. It is much wider than it is tall, more rectangular. How many movie theaters with square screens do you see?
Tvs (unless they are widescreen which weren't available at first, and were quite pricey, once they did come out, until more recent years when widescreen tvs became the norm) were usually a 1.33:1 ratio.
Full screen is the same as 'formatted to fit your screen' - they edited it to fit the 1.33 home tv screen. Until recent years, most tv shows were filmed or taped to fit 1.33 screens but movies, unless there is the odd movie out there trying to make a statement, have always been widescreen.
As to the problem with this guys DVD? I don't know. Did he have his tv on the right setting? Had the people who put the DVD together tried to reconstitute it from an edited version of the movie rather than the original film? I don't know.
But this movie WAS filmed in widescreen. That I do know.
My sister bought it for me months ago, finally watching it now. And it does come as double sided dvds for widescreen and fullscreen.
I turned to look but it was gone...
