Horrible acting.. and 'dancing'

I'll let you know a very closely guarded secret - even when this film first came out (I don't recall it playing in theatres or even recall seeing previews on television.), we all knew that it was poorly acted and the dancing was terrible. Even way back in the 80s and 90s when it aired on HBO every fifteen minutes, audiences (well, me and my dopey friends) cringed at the "Top That" rap. We laughed our asses off at Rhet and his lame group of rapping buddies who were supposedly so "funky". Even though we were listening to crap like Vanilla Ice, we still knew the rap and dancing was awkward and terrible.

You'll be hard pressed to find movies from that era that were aimed at girls that weren't cheesy and poorly acted. That's part of their charm.

Cheeseball, yes. Bad acting? Nope. Despite lame song-and-dance routines and ridiculous dialogue the acting is actually very good.

Put aside your opinion of the style and assess the performance alone.
