I really like this movie but...

Brad is about as interesting as watching paint dry.

Don't get me wrong, he's nice, he's easy on the eyes, but when Louise said "There's many fine qualities about you that have nothing to do with football," I had to wonder what in the world they were.

Contrasting Brad with the creepy, sleazy little brother - I'd have to admit the little brother is far more interesting.

I'm NOT saying that Brad has to be a "bad boy" to be interesting; but let's face it, he's as three dimensional as a paper plate.

His role in the movie consists of little more than being Louise's love interest, and standing in the background either brooding mysteriously or standing next to Rhonda brooding mysteriously.

If someone were to ask me about his character, I'd have nothing to say.

Plus it's kind of annoying that he basically two timing with both Rhonda and Louise the entire movie, and nobody seems to care. Rhonda nor Louise seem to care that he sort of plods along after whoever is the most popular girl. "Why do you put up with Rhonda?" "Every guy wants to date the most popular girl." Really? Wow.

And the one time he shows a bit of personality and tells Louise he doesn't want to go with Rhonda to the dance; he ends up going with her anyway.

Its bad writing

The only thing i found interesting was watching him throw footballs through a Tyre
I didn't like how he two timed them and thinking about the movie after watching it recently I also thought the same thing Why did they Write such a bad plot for Dan
I thought whats so good about him why does everyone like him so much
He was quite caring when Louise was hurt it was Rhonda that told him not to help Louise
He Also was personal when he said he shouldnt have let David drive her home
and he got her a drink when the vending machine wouldn't work but I didn't really find his character all that appealing because it was like Brad had no personality

Oh yeah, this reminds me of something I forgot to put in my post.

He seemed to have a genuine interest in Louise since the start of the movie, but he never acts on it. If he does show concern, it seems to be hindsight or out of eyeshot of Rhonda. So not only is he boring, he has zero backbone and isn't even true to himself except when he admits he only wants to date the most popular girl. The scene where he and Louise are in the boat sort of cements that for me - he doesn't even seem to KNOW himself let alone have a clue about what he can offer a girl. So, even after watching the movie at least twenty times in the 90s, I'm at as much of a loss as he is.

Did you get that impression too? What do you think?
