Birth Control?

ABC Family is showing Teen Witch right now and I am loooving it. Nearly forgot how much I loved this movie when I was younger (and they used to show it on Disney all the time).

Along with the weed reference, the birth control pills in Louise's purse was new to me. Is it safe to assume to the English prof was just kidding or did she really have those pills?

I thought it was really strange too. It seemed like she never had a boyfriend, so why did she have them? The pill case looked authentic so I don't think he was kidding, but it didn't make a lot of sense. Oh well, a lot of this movie didn't make sense!!

"The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care."

Haha well it makes a lot of sense to a girl. Plenty of girls are on birth control in high school. It's not as uncommon as you may think.

teenagers are more likely to be on the pill to regulate their periods. it's not just for birth control

reply

The funny thing is females who take birth control pills to regulate their menstrual cycle could skip having their period completely if they skipped taking the placebos.

And no, you don't need to menstruate every 28 days just because it's "natural"; it's not like your endometrium is going to rot or turn toxic or anything.

reply

One may not need to menstruate every month if they are taking birth control pills but they do need to menstruate every few months. See, the endometrium lining does build up, thinner on BCP, but it does build up.

If you don't shed this lining (usually every three months or so depending on what version of BCP you are on) it can cause all sorts of problems.

For example: Women who are not on any pills and do not have a normal cycle can end up with endometrium cancer. That reason is one of the many reasons women take birth control pills.

I took the birth control pills as many things. First as a catalyst for Louise to use her magic and create that comical scene of the teacher. After all a teacher pulling out birth control at that time was pretty embarrassing. the pills hinged on people's social and general misconceptions of females, birth control and sex, which have changed simce the 80s. In addition it was logical for her to carry around birth control with the hope that something more would happen. It's pretty logical if you have a guy whom you have a crush on.

Yup...I was shocked by those references also since I had only watched this on Disney lol...yet the episodes of Growing Pains they aired would keep all the hell's and damn's intact...

When you're 17 a cow can seem dangerous and forbidden...am I alone here?
