Wasn't that little brother disturbing?

I just watched this today after not having seen it for years. I remember it was one of my fave movies as a teen girl, but even then, I thought that Richie the little brother was just 'too much.' I still think it's true today.

Frankly, I thought he was strange and disgusting, and not in that typical little brother way you might be used to seeing.

I think it might be the actor who played him. I saw this boy in one other movie, and he played that character the same way. I found it disturbing that a young teen boy could come across so leering and sleazy.

Does anyone agree?

I still love this movie though!!!

He's more so creepy and weird, than disturbing. I actually find him appealing. Definitely one of the highlights of the movie!

I thought he was a creep but then he was supposed to be a creep in the movie. I haven't seen him in any other movies to compare with his performance in this one.

Watch River's Edge. Really good movie, and he's really good in his role as Keanu's troubled little brother. My favorite off-the-wall scene of his in Teen Witch is when he's making that weird messy pizza.
Also, he's in a Honey Nut Cherrios commercial from the early 80's, which I noticed in a download of about 300 old commercials I found.

He was hilarious! Yes he was disturbing and strange but that's what makes him funny - My favourite scene is when he takes Louise breakfast in bed (wearing a bell boy uniform for some reason) "Louise, Louuiissee" he has this ridiculously creepy look on his face when he says "I took the liberty of ironing your homework', it looks like a scary ventriloquist dummy or something.

Yeah, he creeped me out.

Truthfully, when I was younger and watching this movie, I didn't know if Louise had a younger brother or a younger sister. I figured she either had a slightly effeminate brother or a tomboyish, butch-y sister.

HE WAS *beep* ANNOYING

YES. I actually went on this board just to see if anyone thought that kid was super creepy! And beyond '80s creepy.

I loved the hell out of that movie as a teenager, and after watching it recently... sadly, it did not age as well as I'd hoped (though Zelda Rubenstein still owns it).

Josh Miller always did come across as, um, very distinctive, let's say. He did do a great job in "River's Edge" as someone on here already mentioned. Seeing him in that, or even in "Near Dark" may give people a new perspective on him. He's always a little strange, though--even seeing him as a very little kid in the sitcom "Family Ties," in one episode, he was strange, and that's a mild comedy! His demeanor works well for oddball roles; not so much for anything else. In real life, he's the half-brother of actor Jason Patric and the son of Jason Miller, the man who was best known as the Priest in the classic, "The Exorcist."

I remember watching this when I was a kid and I did think the brother was kind of creepy. Just the way he talked and his facial expressions were very weird.

Seeing this movie as a kid I never thought he was creepy or weird. Just typical little brother annoying. However having just watched it now on Netflix I came on here specifically to see if there was a thread about him lol. He's quite strange. The way he speaks and delivered his lines was very old jewish lady who lives in NY to me. Entertaining but a very strange dude.
