Rachel Flashback - Pig Family

In the flashback scene, when Zelda dies, Rachel runs out of her room screaming that she's dead. She passes a portrait on the wall, presumably a family member, who looks like a pig wearing human clothes. She then runs down the stairs, where there are two or three obese, piggish-looking children (no offense to them, but it's clearly intentional). What's going on here? She has no other siblings in the book, and she and her parents are normal looking people, what's with the painting and these other kids?!

In the dialogue she says that the neighbors ran out of their houses to see her screaming. That doesn’t quite match what is on the screen, since they are already in the house, but I assumed they were supposed to be neighborhood children, and just combined memories, and put them there.

I was thinking that for a second, but they look just like the portrait on the wall!

It was not a pig. It was a portrait of Zelda as a child. The painting just made the child look chubby. The other kids are just neighborhood kids. She mentions this when she's talking about Zelda's death.
