I can't stand the dad.

I have been watching this movie ever since I was a little girl and everytime I watch this I feel like wringing the father's neck.
He has to be the most idiotic character in all of the horror movies I have ever seen. This man makes so many bad decisiions it's hard to feel sorry for him.
The neighbor warned him about burying corpses in pet sematary, the young college student whose life he tried to save came back as a spirit and warned him repeatedly .........did his dumb azz listen? No.
Even after he observed the cat's bizarre, vicious behavior, he still went and buried Gage. He saw how Gage returned back from the grave and buried his wife! This guy was a doctor?
It infuriates me because I feel his dumb choices led to the domino effect demise of his family and friend.
If he had not buried Gage, his wife and neighbor would have been alive. If he had not buried his wife, his stupid behind would still be alive. Now, his poor daughter is left parentless because of his increasingly bad decisions. Dumb idiot.
Rant over.

That's how the father was written in the book. You have to understand the cemetery is making the father do all these careless acts. It's like he goes under some sort of trance and then doesn't remember doing any of that stuff by the time he gets back home. The burial ground literally drives him insane!

And nothing makes people more desperate than losing a loved one.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

That dad may have been a complete moron but he never would have done any of that stuff had his idiotic neighbor kept his mouth shut about the Micmac burial grounds in the first place, why would you show anyone that place when you know how dangerous it is.

reply

Because the evil spirits that possessed the burial ground forced him to. If you liked this movie, you really should read the book. So much of the story was left out that the movie really doesn't make sense. The book is excellent and will scare the living shizz out of you.

The description of Lewis opening Gage's coffin... :shudders:

I don't have a problem with the Dad's actions because, in a sense, he was possessed by that which lived in the Indian burial ground, but I do have a big problem with Dale Midkif, his performance is simply dreadful.

It's all a deep end.

reply

This!! Lol, Dale was the worst.
