Great show but...

I watched this with highly skewed expectations. I found out about the show by reading a blog post of the top ten horror films I've never seen. This was number one. Considering all the slasher's and satanism films on the rest of the list I expected this to be a lot scarier than it was. It was a good film but honestly I wouldn't even call it a horror movie at all.

There was that shot with the dad on the beach which made me jump but it wasn't scary - eerie to be sure but not a horror.

The ending was haunting though, very sad.

To be honest, I don't believe that this movie is supposed to be a horror film. A Dark Fantasy film, yes, but not Horror.

Exactly, a dark fantasy is the perfect name for it. Like Pan's Labrynth or something.

I watched this because Clive Barker said he chose the director for Candyman based on his directing of this movie.

It was...OK. More of a quaint look at England in the not-so-distant past than a real horror of any kind.
