I would dearly love to know what happened next to Marianne and Mark - does anyone have the book? I'd be thrilled to even just be able to borrow it - I wish it was in print and added to a bumper edition of "Marianne Dreams" or something.
Alternatively can anyone who has read it post what happens in it as good detail as possible? Please please please!
You know, I was wondering the same thing! (Laugh) From what I read on Amazon.com.uk, the novel "Marianne and Mark" has been out of print for a long time. However, it doesn't sound like it has a lot to do with the original plot of "Marianne Dreams." It says that the majority of the book is just about Marianne dealing with growing up, and that Mark enters the novel almost toward the end. Now, what happens at the point I have no clue because they never really said. There was only one review of it. I too would love to know what happened! So, someone spill the beans who read that book! haha
It's so strange that "Marianne Dreams" is still in print, and has had a film adaptation, yet the sequel has vanished off the face of the earth. Perhaps Catherine Storr/the publisher grew to regret not leaving the story alone.
If you guys are interested, you might get them there... I can't due to those can't be sent to Mexico, and I have not the title in spanish so I can buy them here...
Yeah, I'd seen it there and also on abebooks.com - very very expensive. I think it will just have to be a case of sheer LUCK and finding it at a jumble sale or charity shop where the seller doesn't know the value of it.
i found someone selling both marianne dreams and marianne and mark together on ebay and i was able to win them for about 30 dollars total, so i'm in the process of reading marianne and mark right now. So far it's about marianne visiting her aunt and uncle in Brighton and she is very lonely and sorta depressed. She is 15 now, and at first there is very little connection made to the original book or what happened, but then she goes to see a psychic with some friends and the psychic talks about how she was sick for a long time, and how marianne has special abilities, and one of them is the ability to dream, and marianne is kind of freaked out about all this, and the psychic talks about how when she was sick she found support and help from other people, and how she helped someone too, so there have been allusions to mark, but no actual mention of him, by anyone yet. Marianne just saw the psychic a second time and she talked about how marianne had found comfort at a lighthouse, and how she was going to meet a special friend, or a boy soon, but somehow she has already met this person.........oh, also marianne has become intrigued by the occult, and the psychic tells her she has abilities, like the psychic herself, but she is too young to use them, and they could be dangerous........i'm about 100 pages into it, it's 232 pages total. So far no mark, but i'm sure he'll show up soon somehow. It's interesting how Catherine storr is sort of explaining what happened in the first book by showing that Marianne has some psychic abilities, which might explain her ability to connect to mark in the dream world. Anyway, i'll post the rest when i finish reading it, sorry if my summary is not so great..........
I'd really like to read this as well. I just read that Storr had killed herself at 87 years old. I felt really bad -- it said that she felt like no one wanted to read her new stuff. That's such a shame!!!
I am in a thousand winds that blow, I am the softly falling snow.
