Comedy?

Is this movie notably different from others in the series? I have only seen the original, thought it was good but not great and saw no reason to watch any more of the series. But I glance at this movie on IMDb and see that its genres include comedy. I can't find anything else to back this up anywhere, none of the reviews on rotten tomatoes mention humor or attempted humor, it seems to be a straight horror film. Is it so bad it's good? If that's the case it's unintentionally funny and shouldn't be listed as a comedy just like Ed Woods movies aren't. What do people who've seen it think, is this a horror comedy, a straight horror or an unintentional comedy?

It's Freddy's one-liners that are the reason IMDb includes comedy as a genre. Freddy started getting more screen time and became much more verbal after the second movie. He also got really popular in the late 80's, and due to this the filmmakers have Freddy pandering for the audience in later films (particularly the 5th and 6th films). This wasn't a good thing btw.

I agree it wasnt a great idea to turn him into a damn clown for parts 5 and 6 but i liked 5 (6/10 and 6 was still ok (5/10) its not a horrible idea. I mean there was already 4 movies the comedic elements were a big part of freddy's popularity! I just have no problem with it im a huge freddy fan

To me Freddy is more disturbing when he's funny, b/c he torments the hell out ofyou before he kills you. To me it would be much more traumatizing to be stalked by Freddy from parts 5 and 6 than part 1, in part 1 your death would be relativly fast.

If it were happening to you I think later funny Freddy would be far worse. And, I KNOW, before someone says, "But it's not happening to us and it doesn't work on screen for a horror movie blah blah blah" I always put myself in the victims shoes. ~spoiler~ Mark's comic book dream looks really comical, BUT if you were going through that, immagine the fear, pain, etc...

I don't hate this film. It's ok but it's just no where near as good as it could have been. A few one liners here and there are ok but they just take it too far.

I consider 1, 2, 3, and 7 to be the best. 5 is mediocre. 4 is slightly above mediocre. 6 is a decent parody I guess, but an terrible way to try to end the series.

This movie is dark comedy, Freddy is cracking wise, but the atmosphere is very dark and eerie I think and GOTHIC.

Give it a watch, you haven't lost anything just watching it. I think the whole series is worth watching.

But I consider parts 4 and 6 as the REALLY comical ones, esp. 6. But part 4 is when Freddy became the funny Jonny Carson Freddy I think lol

I agree the movie has good atmosphere. It has a decent story too.

I also agree that the whole series is worth watching. A person should decide for themselves which of the films they like.

Not sure why my other post appeared in between toking's posts when I was replying to Bwizzle's post, but whatever. :/

Aren't most of them past part 2 comedies? That's when Freddy started cracking one liners.

Yes, every film between 2 and New Nightmare. At least with Parts 3 and 4 though he had scenes where he was relatively quiet. By comparison, in 5 and 6, he almost never shuts up.
