I think the deaths were some of the most creative and inventive. I also liked how all the characters were completely different, and I found them interesting. I don't get why this film gets so much hate, I really don't.

I love this movie, it's defintly symbolic,and really deep in some places.
I though SOME of the characters were SIMILAR to those in part 4 though.
Mark was kinda like Rick he sorta became a "brother" type figure to Alice.
Greta was sorta like Kristen, both from well to-do families with controlling snobby moms and their deaths were similar, both at the table, not hungry, wanting to mourn their friends' deaths while their uncaring mothers were trying to force them to eat.
Yvonne to me was sorta a mixture of Debbie and Shiela. Tough girl unwilling to believe Alice but still sweet on the inside.

The deaths (however heavily butchered they were) were certainly the highlight of the movie. Shame they had to take Freddy too far into the comedic realm (a slightly less noticeable symptom of The Dream Master) and lay the soap opera angle on so damn thick. The movie is a visual feast for Elm Street fans but ultimately feels hollow and cynical.

All the other movies just focus on trying to KILL Freddy b4 he kills anyone else.

The acting is a little sketchy in parts, but for the most part I really like it. I just wish I liked Alice a little more.

Agreed about the fantastic visuals on this film. Some of the best in the series.
The film has glaring flaws, and a lot of things I don't like about it, like Mark's death scene (way too cheesy for my taste). Most obviously, like someone brought up, the damn censorship. Shame on New Line for never fixing this. I understand that the original prints were lost or whatever, and the only way to see them is VHS quality, but they should have at least included the extended death scenes in the special features.
I thought Yvonne was a great character. I believed the actress's emotions. Greta was fun, and it was great seeing that Alice's father wasn't an ass anymore.
I hear a lot of ppl complain about Mark's death being too overly SILLY, but honesrtly don't you all EVER have dreams like that?
The only SMALL problem I have with Mark's death is NOT b/c it's TOO silly, but b/c it basically shows that Freddy is all powerful, I mean you don't even stand a chance to fight against him, IF he can merely turn you into paper and shered you, what's the point in even trying? I have the same semi-complaint with Debbie's death scene from part 4.

Technically, at least with Debbie, it was her own fear that made her vulnerable in the nightmare, Freddie just takes advantage. Just a thought, I know these movies have a lot of inconsistencies!

There were some good ideas, but they were horribly executed, and the writing was awful.
"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"
I liked this film the best out of the entire series. Yes, it had a couple campy moments (but don't ALL the 'NOES' films?!). But it was scary and rather intelligent!
It was sooo refreshing to see some of the characters actually fight back, and in some cases with success!
It also had some genuinely scary moments, especially with Amanda. I liked how they used that character of Amanda also.

It has it's strong points and it's weak points. Lisa Wilcox does a good job, many of the visuals are great, and the movie TRIES to be more serious. But Englund started playing Freddy in a hammier, broader fashion here, and the ending is drawn out and weak.
shareHey guys so I'm back here and I just revisited this film again it's funny to see that I started this threat like two years ago. I still feel pretty much the same way about it, overall I like it but I think that's mainly because I like the characters and I feel it really felt like they were close friends. Lots of creative kills in this one. I think the art design in this film is pretty strong and I didn't feel the acting was bad. I do agree that the ending kind of sucked and that the comic book death was pretty cheesy and just too much but everything else I liked. The movie wasn't scary at all but it was fun and that really is cause all the kids were pretty cool. Loved Mark and Greta.
