I love the complexity and depth this entry in the franchise has.(SPOIL)
I was reading a post over in the Halloween 5 forum by a fellow user by the name of Xen11 and that got me thinking about showing my appreciation for the underrated fifth installment of the Elm Street franchise.
Now just like Xen11 love's all of the Halloween films I feel the same way for all of the Elm Street films their's not a single installment that I'm upset over like Halloween although I like Part's 5 & 6 of the Halloween their's certain elements of those films that upsets me and the Rob Zombie duo I think are complete turds with certain elements that I like.
Okay so on to Elm Street 5:
This film is a amazing follow up to the tremendous Elm Street 4:The Dream Child although it's not as great as that installment it's a brilliant progression of that film's story.
Okay we have Dan & Alice from the previous installment getting into more adult & mature themes with this film as they are having a baby and graduating High School.Alice has a Job she also had the same Job in the previous installment but in this film it seems to have more weight to what Alice is going through at the time. The film goes on to have Dan die which lead's to us having Alice be a single mother. That small description just shows just us the audience the drama she is facing.
The film has a nice contrast the voice of Pro-Choice(Mark) when he and Alice are having the conversation about what to do with the baby and Pro-Life(Alice) with her wanting to keep the baby.Their's a lot of layers in this film that unfourtenley most fans don't pick up on.
I also love the Gothic atmosphere and the deeper connection we got between Fred & his mother Amanda that Elm Street 3 poorly attempted to do although I still do love Elm Street 3 keep that in mind.
This film's only weak spots were Freddy's makeup, some of his one liners & the child actor they got to play Alice's son Jacob but other than that I think this film is a highly underappreciated installment it didn't feel as sloppy and unthoughtout like the other two big horror franchises at the time with Halloween 4:The Return of Michael Myers being a amazing return to form after the cool experiment of Part 3 to Halloween 5 still a good film but you can defently feel the lack of quality between the two or the lazy adventure of Friday the 13th Part VII:The New Blood of which is entertaining but it's a awful film to the sometimes decent but overall boring Friday the 13th Part VIII:Jason Takes Manhattan.
To me despite it being slightly rushed this film is absolutely great just like the other eight installments in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise I actually prefer this film over Elm Street 3:The Dream Warriors.
