How would you feel if Todd & Margo were your neighbors?

Me I wouldn't mind as long as they don't bother me and keep things to themselves, I have neighbors who IMO are a lot worse compared to Todd & Margo, also in the movie I didn't think Todd was all that bad of a character.

They seemed decent enough, the big problem to me is that they just didn't mesh with the Griswolds - Clark specifically. Todd and Margo are insufferable, but only if you find snobbish yuppies insufferable.

If the Griswolds and the Chesters lived anywhere but next to each other, they'd probably be decent neighbors in a different neighborhood.

They didn't seem like the kind of people I'd want to hang out with, but they also seemed capable of minding their own business if unprovoked. Frankly, Clark often seemed like more of the aggressor in their interactions.

Kind of surprising that they would even be living in the suburbs and in a neighborhood like that. Figure a couple of yuppies with good jobs (probably downtown) and no kids would want to have a really nice apartment in the city, or even a penthouse. They definitely felt superior to people like Clark and looked down their noses at him. And based on their Christmas Eve discussion about Christmas trees, they looked down on many common family things like that. It's surprising that they would want to be surrounded by people like that.

Interesting point. But penthouses have always been for the extraordinarily wealthy. And Todd & Margo were just yuppies. Back then it wasn't common for upper middle class people to move into the city. Most people were still fleeing inner cities. Especially if they were "bourgeois" status-seekers. Urban life was "bohemian" & considered even more gauche than the suburbs. Americans didn't really develop the idea of a fused "bobo" (bohemian/bourgeois) class until the 90s.

I think this was the root of Hughes contempt for Todd & Margo. They were just passive consumers with zero civic spirit. Meanwhile Clark was pouring his heart into building a family.

I have an aunt and uncle like they and they’ve always lived in the sub burbs.

I live in a really weird neighborhood. It's very quiet and a lot of people don't talk to each other and the ones that do will only talk to the same ones. I guess you could say it's clicky. Todd and Margo sucked, but there's a good chance we wouldn't even speak other than waving hello once in a while.
