IMO this was Chevy Chase's last great movie

I've felt the movies he did afterward weren't that great although I did like "Nothing But Trouble" (which came out a couple years after this movie).

reply

Yep. Same year he did Fletch Lives. That was definitely the last hoorah of Chevy. Just before the 90s slipped in.

reply

Yeah, when you go back and look at his filmography you see that he really only had a brief prime and just a handful of great films. For whatever reason he just didn't have the staying power of some of his fellow 80s comedy stars like Bill Murray or Steve Martin.

I've also heard he's quite bitter about this and is a huge asshole.

reply

Yup! Famous for being a one trick pony asshole!

reply

Well that's the whole problem. Once "stars" start believing their own hype, they become assholes - and it translates right over to film. If Chevy can ever find humility again, he might actually turn in a good project in his final years.

reply

True. And sad. He had a good run in the late 70s/early 80s.

BUMP

reply

OK, So I went and checked out his film resume post Christmas Vacation

He had a couple good films, funny, until the Vegas Vacation, then nothing memorable

SOOOO I guess you're right

reply

I LOVE THE VACATION FILMS...BUT MIGHT ARGUE THAT CHEVY CHASE WAS NEVER IN ANY GREAT MOVIES.

reply

how dare you!

reply

Snow Day (2000) where he plays a weatherman forced to wear silly costumes to boost ratings is funny role, but other than that he didn’t have much after this besides Community
