brilliant
It must be 12 years since I last saw this film and it has lost none of it's power, particularly Day-Lewis's performance. It reminded me so much in parts of my own Dublin childhood. Brenda Fricker was also excellent, perfectly depicting the typical self-sacrificing hardworking Dublin Mother. They were the unsung heroes of Dublin, women who triumphed against the odds. My father knew the Browns, he remembers them as tough people (you wouldn't cross them), and Christy had a particularly filthy tongue as was shown in the film.
A great film
