I think it was a heart attack

Probably a heart attack...he helped to build that room for Christy, and through the physical exertion had a heart attack. The health system in those days (1930s) is not quite what it is today

Pa Brown wasn't exactly the picture of health. Poor diet, very physical work and drinking a lot all add up to dying relatively young.

I doubt he had regular medical checkups.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.
