My Left Foot reminds me of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, which is also a movie based on a memoir of a disabled man. Jean-Dominique's story is at least as amazing as Christy Brown's and similarly well acted.

YES! Very similar in many respects.
J-D's story (in TDB&tBF) was of a later disability in life when he persevered in telling his life story (in which he overcame those monumental injuries).
CB's story (MLF) was of monumental injuries from the beginning of his life and his surmounting of this to produce a treasury of art, poems, books, etc., which far transcends his beginnings.
Both good movies.
Both epic struggles against extreme obstacles/difficulties.
