The Kid who played young christy brown...

...was brilliant! I couldn't believe how big his part was... about 20 or 25 minutes... for a kid who was probably 12 or 13 at the time, that is an extremely difficult role to play, for that length of time, but he did a magnificent job and i'm surprised there isn't anything discussion about him on the boards...

I couldn't agree more, I also thought that he was fantastic playing the character in his early days. I definitely think some of the credit should go to him, even though Day-Lewis made the film overall.

Absolutely cracking film - 10/10 is my vote!

I completely agree. He even had similar features to Daniel Day-Lewis and they both act in a very similar way - perhaps they rehearsed the part together.

His acting is marvellous too, so as i initially said, i completely agree. (What a hard role to play as well!)

He didn't speak in the movie . But I agree, his performance was great !

When Daniel Day Lewis received his Oscar for MY LEFT FOOT - the first (and only) person from the film he thanked was Hugh O'Connor.

Hugh O'Conor's performance is magnificent, the best in the film IMO. Day-Lewis swept most of the major awards that year and it seems unfair that O'Conor was overlooked. To his credit, he's one of those rare child actors who has managed to forge a pretty successful career as an adult actor.

The story of that kid (Hugh O'Connor) is extremely sad. read it on Wikipedia. he could have been such a great actor.

Suskis -- you have Hugh O'Conor mixed up with Hugh O'Connor.

Hugh O'Connor's tale is unfortunately sad and tragic. BUT he did NOT play the role of the young Christy Brown in this film.

Hugh O'Conor (single "N") did and he's still acting.

Thanks for finding my mistake. I put O'Conor in Wikipedia and the suggested result was the wrong actor!

He was also absolutely brilliant in the dark comedy (based on a true story) The Young Poisoner's Handbook.

And if you can get it, Hotel Splendide, and more recently, Speed Dating.

You overlooked his well known film: Chocolat

Hugh O Connor was Carroll O Connors (All in the Family) son who committed suicide.
