How is this not on Top 250?

Just wondering...

Beats me. At 7.8 it's only 0.3 short of guaranteeing that it gets in the Top 250.

I rated this film 9/10 (excellent). I would have given it 10/10 (perfect) had the film been given a bit more money to go towards the artistic direction (set, music, costume, lighting, cinematography etc).

This is not intended as a criticism. In actual fact it could be construed as a compliment because of the film doing so well with such a low budget of £600,000. It's mentioned in the trivia section that Miramax spent three times this in publicity in order to get it noticed for Oscar consideration.

I guess the poverty theme of the film allows this film to get away with it. All the other aspects of the film like story, acting and directing were superb.

PS: I've just talked myself into giving it 10/10.

1) It's really not THAT great

2) It's not the type of film that is pleasing to the masses

I never really understand the top 250.. I'm working my way through it and think this film (whilst in no means perfect) is a lot better than a lot of the films which ARE at the top. This film is very similar in storyline to The Intouchables which is number 37 but maybe people rated that more highly because it was a bit more unexpected and comedic than My Left Foot. I also think it's much better than Dr Strangelove (42), Oldboy (72) and Yojimbo (103)..

Personally - this is a movie where you have a great performance by the lead actor, but not a great movie.

To me - only Day-Lewis' performance saved My Left Foot from being a lousy movie.

This isn't in my top 250 (of 650 rated to date)

5 / 10
