remember it being a lot better.

to me this is one of those films that you remember being a lot better than it actually was. i remember seeing this years ago, the vivid plot and characters stay with you but you forget how badly directed and lame some bits where, like the talking robot.

My teenage brain thought it was awesome when it first came out, my 30-something brain thought it was merely nostalgic. But then, when I was a teen, I thought Marc Singer (who played Mike Donovan in the original "V") was the hottest man alive

I don't patronize bunny rabbits!

Just watched it again for the first time in 20 years as well, and I think the talking robot was actually the standout character of the film! I'm happy to see that sarcasm survives another 1,000 years.

I actually liked the robot; he was like her mentor.

I didn't finish seeing the WHOLE movie.

It came on this morning @ 7 AM and I didn't see it until after an hour had passed. I ONLY saw maybe about 15-20 mins of it.

What little I did see was definitely good, though! 

Same here. I guess maybe I blocked out the cheesy dialog especially during exposition.

funny how some things (most things from late 80s early 90s) are better fondly remembered IMO

3 years later, I am from the future...LOL

Anywho, I think it's because our perceptions change as the times change.

We're placing today's perceptions on something from 1989 and so I think we're more likely to dissect it vs. when we saw it with 1989 eyes and minds. 

Personally, when I watch a movie even a movie that's NOT a modern-day movie, I just analyze the plot & ignore the settings, clothes, etc.

Of course I grew up in the 80's and something I thought was hysterically funny happened when I saw part of Friday the 13th where Jason in in space and in one scene they parodied 80's Friday the 13th movies and 80's themes like the famous cut-off shorts and the parody was honestly ridiculous.

Even in the 80's, women weren't honestly that stupid and cut-offs were NEVER really considered en vogue, either. They were just something you wore around the house or the yard and you made them out of jeans that holes in them that couldn't be worn any more.

So, in that 80's parodical scene it wasn't very realistic, although, I DID laugh hysterically because it was honestly stupid. 

I saw it when it came out and didn't care for it much, watching it today I think it's a lot better.
