Dining scene
When Jake, Hays, and Vaughn are eating at the nice restaurant, why is Vaughn drinking Coke? Because he's underage, on probation, or because he doesn't like wine?

shareI would say because he was under age. His character was a juvenile delinquent, not a straight up criminal. Through out the movie he's referred to as a kid, and made out to be the 'baby' of the group.
shareBut he was also holding a beer bottle in the bar when Suzanne Dorn picked him up. I'd totally go along with the underage argument ('cause he was with Jake in the bar during the autograph scene) if not for that.

You're livin' in the past, man! You're hung up on some clown from the sixties, man!
I think it was more to demonstrate how far out of their comfort zone they were in that instance. Jake and Willie weren't that far off, but Ricky was just completely out of his league.
He's at a nice, gourmet French restaurant, and he's more into chili dogs and a Coke than the gourmet cuisine and a fine wine.

Mrs. French's cat is missing...
i'm sure their chili dog was good, tho.

He wanted to get a nice sugar rush going so he could drag that guy out back and kick the *beep* out of him.
