could Snipes really run that fast?

not in the scenes where he's running the base path and isn't in a foot race with anyone else.. but in the scene where he wakes up outside and winds up passing those two guys running wind sprints.. even though the entire scene was in slowmo.. was that the real deal..?

reply

No. The guys werent running fast.

Actually they hired two world class sprinters and put them in baseball uniforms. Then they told them to run as fast as possible to see if Snipes could beat them.

Seriously, how fast he could or couldn't run isn't a real issue. No matter how fast or slow he was in real life, the scene was staged to make him look as fast as hell.

In the commentary of the movie on DVD it actually mentions how Snipes couldn't run real fast.

The REAL question (since the OP's question is asinine) is how and why are we to believe that 1) he was already cut from the team (him stating it out loud and thus seemingly having to beat those two guys in the race to get BACK onto the team) and 2) he slept through not only having his bed brought outside for several hours in the broad daylight AND baseball practice being held right next to him?? I mean, was he DRUGGED???

That one's easy: He wasn't cut from the team so much as he was never on the list of people invited to try out. He was a party crasher. That's why they took him off the premises.

In 20 minutes that place'll be swarming with mailmen. We'll be back on the street by lunch.

In the DVD commentary they said Snipes was actually slow. They had to have the other 2 guys run slow, then they had to put it in slow motion so you couldn't tell the other 2 guys weren't running hard.

Snipes had never been cut from the team. He was never invited to spring training, he just showed up. They basically kicked him out of spring training, but when they seen how fast he ran, they decided to give him a chance.

Watch a Cincinnati Reds game with Billy Hamilton. He IS Willie Mays Hayes....

Or to see true speed, watch the 1950 movie The Jackie Robinson Story (starring Jackie Robinson). It is startling how fast he gets around the bases.

Too bad he couldn't run like that when the IRS was after him.

Heh, heh.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

I had also heard that he wasn't a very good basketball player, which made for some technical challenges on "White Men Can't Jump". Woody, on the other hand, played some college ball.
