LIVE ACTION. It's about time !!!

I think they'll probably want to see how well the version with Chloe Grace Moretz is received, but this is really exciting news. It's got me even more crazy than the teaser for BatB 😍

It's been all over the Internet. I don't know how I feel. TLM is my favourite movie of all time and as much as I enjoy the live action adaptations, I can't help but feel that they ruin something of the original magic the animated versions created. And the amount of CGI that's going to be needed scares me a bit. I know it's Disney, but making half a movie exclusively underwater? I don't know if there is enough technology yet. And of course, the choice of who is going to play Ariel. I can't picture anyone becoming the iconic redhead mermaid. None. Many fans wanted Emma Stone, but having been cast as Cruella, it's impossible. Same goes for Emma Watson; there has been some artwork with her as Ariel, but she's already picked for Belle. To be honest, Chloe Moretz doesn't really convince me either, but the version she's starring in has nothing to do with Disney. I don't know. Deep down I hope they'll leave TLM alone; it's perfect as it is.

I agree with you. They have to leave this one alone at least during my lifetime!

I'd prefer to see an unknown girl take on the role of Ariel, one we can't associate with a previous character she played. Chloe Moretz wouldn't be a good fit for Ariel, I agree. But as a mermaid in a version faithful to the original story, sure.

Half the movie taking place underwater is exactly what people will be curious about and create a lot of buzz. Someone breaks new ground every now and then, it could very well be Disney with their CGI waterworld in TLM this time around.
The CGI fish tale is quite easy and has been done before; they wrap the legs in a cloth made of green screen and add in the tail later. Same for ondulating hair. As for characters floating in mid-water, they'll probably just string them up and have them hovering in front of a green screen. All the techniques necessary exist and have been used in one way or another. I'm sure Disney can pull it off.

YES! I would absolutely love to see Disney do it. My picks would be....

Mackenzie Foy as Ariel
Dylan Sprayberry as Prince Eric
Bette Midler as Ursula
Jeffrey Dean Morgan as King Triton
Ryan Newman as Vanessa

Here is a visual comparison of those actors compared to the animation:

As much as I want a live action version, at the same time I'm not sure if that's even remotely a good idea.

Unlike the Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, or even The Jungle Book remakes, literally more than half of the film's cast and a significant part of the film's plot deals with the undersea world. It would be extremely difficult to pull it off without a significant amount of CGI (not to mention even Ariel will have to undergo CGI and thus not actually be a live-action character, at least not in mermaid form), which by that point it ceases to be a live action movie. It would most likely be impossible to pull off, or at the very least exceedingly difficult, probably not even worth the risk. I also fear that it will be based primarily on the Broadway version, which really wasn't my cup of tea due to various reasons (namely, cutting out Vanessa for no real reason, moving Under the Sea to right after Triton has his big blowup at Ariel's grotto [which was an extremely inappropriate move there], among other things.).

Now, they MIGHT have a chance with it if they managed to use Michael Bay as the director (he's done pretty well with the Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, and besides, The Little Mermaid is in effect an action thriller film, so that's right up his alley). Even then, however, that would be controversial considering how many people thought poorly of several of his Transformers films at the very least (including Revenge of the Fallen and to some extent Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction) and may even end up being a disaster.

I didn't really follow the whole Transformers debacle, but wasn't that more because of lack of plot and so on, then visuals? In the case of Disney's TLM, the story is pretty much set in stone, since they want it to be faithful to the animated classic.

Pretty much, that as well as the overuse of explosions as well.

Well, if they want to be faithful to the animated classic, that's good news (though then again, Angelina Jolie and Linda Woolverton claimed to want to be faithful to the original tale when making Maleficent and yet... well, read this to get a good idea of what I'm implying: http://thefederalist.com/2014/06/06/maleficent-once-upon-a-screed/). Certainly beats basing it on the Broadway musical.

They have a lot to do before the movie gets released, they have to work on a script hire a director and crew, cast actors and actresses for the roles, and of course film the movie and also do the work they have to do post production which includes the editing of the film.

This may be good...but the one that I'm really hoping will do good is the Live Action version of "The Lion King"...it's my favorite Disney film and can't wait to see how that one plays out.

If you're not taking any steps forward, you're not moving at all.

I'm psyched as hell that this is getting the live action remake treatment :)
