Sharkey

Ok let’s be honest he’s just Quarrel all over again so why didn’t they just have him be the same character who was in Live and Let Die?

reply

Good observation. You found a plot hole

reply

It’s not a plot hole, Sharkey is his own character I just thought it would make more sense from a writing perspective to just make him Quarrel Jr instead of a character we’ve never seen before. Especially considering Sharkey and Quarrel are so similar (both are allies who live in the Caribbean and assist Bond by getting him to a location with a fishing boat and they both have expert knowledge of sharks) and Bond, Felix and Quarrel Jr all went on a mission together in LALD. Sharkey literally serves the same purpose Quarrel did in Dr No and LALD so it would have made sense to just make him Quarrel.

reply

Spot on. After all your full explanation, its even a bigger plot hole than I previously thought

reply

It was probably done out of respect since the actor who portrayed Sharkey has passed.

reply

You mean Quarrel? Also Roy Stewart who played Quarrel Jr. in Live and Let Die was still alive in 1989. I mean Frank McRae is a great actor he could have just played Quarrel Jr., I mean at that point 6 different actors had played Felix so recasting characters isn’t something that was new to the franchise.

reply

Yes. Thanks for the correction. Although Frank McCrae has since passed as well.

reply

Yes but in 1989 Roy Stewart was still alive.

reply

John Kitzmiller who played Quarrel died in 1965.

reply

And his character was dead as well. I’m talking about Quarrel Jr from Live And Let Die. The character survived the film and the actor Roy Stewart was still alive in 1989

reply

Also same thing in Goldeneye, why not just make Jack Wade, Felix Leiter. They are essentially the same character only Felix doesn’t suck.

reply

Quarrel Jr. would've never gone out like Sharkey did.

reply

What makes you say that?

reply

I'm a comic. I'm trying out new material.

reply

Well do you mind stopping?

reply

Who is stopping?
