Dalton is Bond

Timothy Dalton is the best James Bond along with Daniel Craig why ? because they are realistic the worst has to be Roger Moore that one was clown, he acted like he was a comedian, Dalton however makes you feel like you`re watching a cold blooded assassin who's job consists in kicking bad guys asses because come on let's be real a man that kills people and has a job like that, is not going to act all cheerful and funny of course not, a man like that is going to look dark and gritty just like Dalton played the character.

Yes but in the novels Bond was at times a smooth, charismatic debonair operator. Dalton was a continuous grump. Craig I think pulls off the contrast perfectly. He's smooth without being poncy.

There's a moral to this story Del Boy but for the life of me I can't find it!

Craig, whilst good, is too rough round the edges. Thug in a dinner suit comes to mind.

Particularly with that godawful haircut in Skyfall, he looks like a football hooligan.

He has neither the panache and effortless style of Connery or the characterisation, complexity and cold edge of Dalton.

"I'm leaving, i've assessed the situation, and i'm going".

Thug in a dinner suit is a pretty good description of Bond. If you read the books.

You can believe that Dalton (as Bond) can, and would, kill people -- coldly, efficiently -- if his mission calls for it.

Just like Fleming's 007.

Works for me.

I think if you say anyone is the Best Bond you attract negative opinions either way. However, Dalton is greatly underappreciated. I like him probably third best behind Connery and like an inch behind Craig. But it's really a shame he only made two films.

reply

That's the problem, he had no real personality other than constant grumpiness. He could have been any spy/assassin/generic action hero. Closer to the novels? Sure, but characters evolve and the James Bond that has developed over the years has a certain style that Dalton just never pulled off.

reply

Dalton played the character the way Ian Fleming wrote the character.

reply

The guy takes himself and stuff too seriously. And seems a shade too nice and decent for a professional killer.

Read the books, quite often Bond is "nice and decent".
