It's not a "kid friendly movie". That would be a G-rating. This movie is rated PG-13 in the US, meaning "Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Parents are urged to be cautious. Some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenagers."

This movie has people killed, for Christ's sake. And you have a problem with a chokehold?

It is not Puff the Magic Dragon. There is plenty of other violence in it. Machine guns, tanks, fighter planes, people being decapitated. Not that kid friendly.

It was rated PG-13.

Because she betrayed him and stole the diary. I can't remember the scene in full but wasn't it just a threat to choke her anyway? It was just a warning to get her off his back.
