When Henry Jones Sr gets shot

It was a shocking scene when I first saw it as did the audience who gasped
thinking he was being killed him off. What I thought was unbelievable though was him not crying out in pain , just a few groans. If you had been gut shot , you'd be in agony , especially when Indy shoves a rag into the wound , Henry Sr just lays there silent. I also doubt Henry Sr would have been able to talk , most likely he would have passed out from the pain and there would be blood everywhere. He'd have bled to death by the time Indy returns with the grail as they had nothing besides a rag to stop the bleeding.

Just because you're in agony, doesn't mean you'll be screaming. There are numerous accounts of people being shot or stabbed but not realising - "I thought he punched me in the stomach, it wasn't until I felt I was getting wet and looked down that I realised what must have happened". "I thought it was a shrapnel hitting my helmet, I didn't realise I had been shot until I touched the back of my head and felt that a piece of my skull was missing". There are numerous accounts such as these, both from civilian life and war.

There is also the fact that the less energy you have, the less you scream. If you are at the site of an accident with numerous casualties, the ones who scream the loudest are usually the ones with the least serious injuries.

Whether or not Henry would have bled to death also depends on whether or not an artery was severed. Stomach wounds can potentially take many hours to kill.
