He actually DID staple his hat on. the video is out there. After a few failed takes due to his hat blowing off, Ford grabs the stapler and whacks a few in and announces
"THERE! now it'll stay on!"
later you see blood running down his face.
"He's dusted, busted and disgusted, but he's ok"

I remember seeing this explained in some extra material. He stables it to a rim that is fasten to his head... or something like this... although I have also seen this explained as a joke..... besides, it makes no sense to sable to your skin. It will not hold a hat against strong wins... or anything really. Unless they are embedded good into his skull. Do you believe that?
