THE MUSICAL JOKE IN THIS MOVIE

I Am a musicain as well as a David Shire fan, whom wrote the score for this movie. If anyone has seen the 1976 movie THE HINDENBURG with George C. Scott, David Shire had written that score as well. There was a musical number in THE HINDENBURG entitled "There's A Lot To Be Said For The Fuhrer" in which the piano player, Reed Channing and entertainer Joe Spah deliberately offended the Nazi crew of the airship by doing a vaudeville number mocking Hitler and the new order. I almost fell off the couch when I saw I KNOW MY FIRST NAME IS STEVEN. When Steven returns home after seven years, he takes his girlfriend to an upscale italian restaurant. There was a piano player playing in the background and I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that he was playing David Shire's vaudeville song from THE HINDENBERG. I know laughs are non-existant in this movie, but I was able to catch the creators of I KNOW MY FIRST NAME IS STEVEN in this hilarious inside joke. I encourage anyone who has seen this movie to rent THE HINDENBURG and watch the musical number!
It's like they took one of the most somber, heart-wrenching movies of the eighties and added a twist of Mel Brooks!

Right on. Actually they must have been trying to save a buck on royalties by using that older David Shire tune as jaunty source music.
