Cary Stayer (Steven's Brother) killed 3 or 4 women in Yosemite

How tragic is that for one family to endure? Does anyone know how many years Cary Stayner got for killing thee or four women up in Yosemite? He also confessed that he'd been having sexually violent thoughts about women for years. I know the parents have to be utterly devestated -- one sone kidnapped and molested for years and dies in a motorcycle accident and the other son turns out to be a serial killer.

He was sentenced to death and is currently on death row at San Quentin.

Sadly, Steven died in a motorcycle-auto accident on September 16, 1989.

Kenneth Eugene Parnell, Steven Stayner's kidnapper and the previously-convicted kidnapper and child rapist (Bakersfield, CA, in 1950) sexually assaulted Steven from age seven to age 14 (i.e., 1972 to 1980). From March of 1995 until June of 1997 Mike Echols kept tabs on Parnell, visiting him and taking him out to eat every month or two. However, on one such occasion in June of 1997, Parnell told Mike that the only thing he regretted about sexually assaulting Steven was: "When I had anal sex with [Steven] he would bleed and it get all messy and stuff and I didn't like that." At that point Mike stopped seeing Parnell in fear that he might get so angry that he would kill this child sex predator!

Today Kenneth Eugene Parnell lives as a free man at 2630 Mathews Street in Berkeley, California. He is a very dangerous child sex predator who began preying on young boys in 1950; he keeps toys appealing to boys in his home; boys have been seen going into his home; and he lives near San Pablo Park in Berkeley which is frequented by lots of young boys! And he has even offered to babysit young children in his neighborhood!!

I saw this movie when it first came out and tonight I just finished watching this movie on TV for the second time. At the end of the movie there was an update on how Parnell was caught trying to buy a young boy and was sentanced to 25 years to Life in Prison in 2004.

I've never really believed in Hell, but people like this make me hope I'm wrong so this guy can FINALLY get his just punishment for what he did.

What the FU CK is todays law all about?

I mean... Parnell is free AGAIN?

I just read an article wrote last year that he was on court for trying to buiy a child...
I can't believe his lawyers words "What happened 30-some years ago does not help us today." Damn well t does!!!

Is the nutcase out there undr another name or how the hell does he think anyon would give their child undr his care?

All this I've read in the net's criminal sites and here and seeing the movie again some time ago I can'tt believe all this that has happened after Steven's return.

The world is one fuc king sick, rotten and evil place if someone like Kenneth Parnell is continuously set FREE.

*blood boiling*

My reaction can't be much other way for I love children, I'be always loved them.
Why is Cary on death row for killing 4 women and this bastard runs free and wild after commiting in my eyes many much worse crimes than a murder.
Not that a murder should be taken lightly but...

For there are worse things in life than death.
Ask Steven Stayner (well you could ask if he lived), ask his parnts. Ask Timmy white or his parents.
Ask any of those people who suffered greatly wishing for the merciable death.

Oh and i too, as watching the movie could not believe Cary became a serial killer. Of course Cary in the movie might not have been much like the real young man back then.

You have truly made my night.

I read an article that Cary Stayner had mental problems that stem far before his brother was abducted. It was a while back, not sure where I got that info. He confessed to hearing voices as young child. Don't get me wrong,I am not standing up for what he did. I just don't think he got the help he needed to maybe prevent the problems later in life.

reply

Yeah, he told an investigator that he had longtime fantasies of killing women way before his brother's kidnapping. So odd to watch the film now and see little Cary as a kid, thinking of what might have already been going through his mind. Then as portrayed as an adult, he seemed like a livewire weirdo. His brother's home for the first time, but Cary hugs on his mom like crazy, talking at the top of his lungs. Then sits down and starts griping about being fed, then asks Steve about getting any rewards. Of course the craziest is the line the mother has about Cary "being somewhere up in Yosemite." :(

reply

You're probably right, but his brother being upducted certainly didn't help anything. If nothing else the strain of what happened kept his parents from moticing and dealing with Cary and his problems.

reply

At the same time, what Cary did not only caused the deaths of three or four people, it also hurt every single person who was close to them. Rape and murder hurt lots of people.

That said, Parnell should be locked away too because he's equally dangerous. But the last thing rape victims need to hear is that they'd be better off dead. There's always hope. And another thing, you have to remember that murder victims are not the only ones who suffer. Their families suffer too. And another thing, weren't those women missing before they were found? Their families had to go through that torment. And there are times when murder victims are never found. The not knowing has to be one of the hardest things to go through.

From what I heard of the Yosemite cases (and I might be remembering wrong but from what I recall), the deaths were particularly heinous, as if killing three or four women isn't heinous enough.

i believe cary got the deathe penalty and is sitting on death row.

Im totally shocked! I saw this movie on TV when it first aired and the story really stuck with me. I remember a few months after it aired hearing on the news that the real Steven had died and I think I cryed. Every once and awhile I think of this movie and him and today I decided to see if the movie is on IMDB and here it is. I hadnt heard about his brother! I'm totally shocked!

"I know,i just read an article,i was wondering what became of Cary. All this is that monster parnells'fault. I hope parnell rots in hell!!

I don't think Parnell is entirely to blame. It is obvious that the Stayers are a pretty dysfunctional family ( I hope that the police are keeping a close eye on Steven's sisters ) and that while Parnell took advantage of the situation, he did not create it,
