two brothers

Do you think that Cary Stayner committed the horrific crimes because of his traumatic childhood??

I think you have to have a murders soul and heart in order to commit such crimes. But maybe the experience of losing his brother twice influenced it more or even triggered it.

Hmmmm, I know its a difficult questions.
Still, I would like to know how you guys think.

It's hard to tell. Cary had it rough growing up. he was treated as the new Steven and expected to be like him. When Steven came back he was often forgotten about. This is not meant as an excuse but I think this had an effect on him.

According to Cary himself he said his fantasies started at age 7 which was before Steven was abducted. However, when Cary murdered those women he re-enacted some parts of what happened to Steven. Almost Mirroring Parnell in a way...

I saw on a TV show that years ago Cary Stayner's uncle was found dead in his house, they thought murdered, but the killer was never caught. Cary would have been in his late teens then. Hmmmm.

I heard that the women he killed worked in a foundation for missing children, or something like that. But I think he was predisposed to this kind of thing and his brother's kidnapping only served as fuel. There's no way to know. He may have turned out to be a killer anyway. Regardless, there's only one person responsible in cases like this, and that's the murderer. Other people go through stuff like this and don't end up killing people.

I remember seeing a documentary or something on tv and Cary claims he was molested by an uncle when he was a child.

From a documentary I saw on Carl (or Cary because apparently there is some mix up about his name) there were problems before Steven was kidnapped. He had fantasies of killing two years before the kidnapping. There were always problem with Carl. He was mentally ill. They say he did possibly do it for attention since Steven was getting all the attention, but he since he had been fantasing about murdering people since the age of seven he probably would have done it anyway. Besides Steven had died eight years before he committed the murders, so I doubt they are interlinked.
