Can someone please tell me why Arliss Howard wasn't nominated for an emmy for this movie? Instead they nominate Corin Nemec, who did a poor job.

Corin Nemec actually did a great job. I know that the real Steven Stayner was much more wide-eyed and smiled way more than Nemec did in front of the cameras, but you can tell that he decided to play it from his own angle. Nemec's version was ashamed to admit that Parnell did what he did so he was a little shy and reserved...until they found the pictures. His whole demeanor changed then. Great acting.

I thought both Corin Nemec and Arliss Howard were great in this movie, but how could Arliss Howard be nominated? He wasn't even credited with the film. I've heard the story why, but now I don't recall what it was. I've seen the movie many times, and I'm always struck by the saddness of it. The Stayners had such a rough time with both their boys...each for different reasons.

I thought Arliss was very good in the role. He didn't play the character as a madman, although he was crazy. I guess Corin got the Emmy nod because of who he played.

Anyone know why Howard isn't listed in the credits for this movie?

He didnt want to be remembered or labeled as a pedophile because of this role.To some people these kinds of films hit close to home and end up hating the actor equally as the character.He didn't want to take the chance for his career.

He did have threats made against him after this film was made. Some people forgot he was just an actor.

Just found out this was the same guy in The Sandlot playing grown up Scotty. Never would've guessed that one.

That's Arliss Howard? That looked like Judge Reinhold to me.

I think Arliss would much rather be remembered as Cowboy in "Full Metal Jacket"

Arliss Howard did not look like Parnell in the least. Parnell had a gut and was taller. At the Palace Hotel where he was Night Clerk no one thought he was capable of such crimes. Bad luck seems to come around also. The hotel was refurbished a couple of years later but now is going through refurbishment again and the hotel may not survive this time.It hit on bad luck after this whole thing was over.
