I wonder if he got the same sentence as Parnell or if he got a longer sentence? well I hope the latter isn't true because Parnell only got 5 years for his actions and Murph never touched Steven so I hope he's not in prison right now.

Murphy got 64 months if i remember correctly.. well, about 5 years, sure about that. He was out after about 3 years.
Probation is about 1/3 of the rest-sentence.
Well if he is anything like he is in the movie then he most likely learned his lesson and his punishment was fitting.

Definitely not, laws have changed a lot since then.

shareI never understood why he didn't tell someone about the kidnapping. It's been a while since I've seen this movie and read the book. I seem to recall that he was on parole at the time of the kidnapping,or something like that. I also remember after he pleaded with Parnell to let Steven go, and what he was doing wasn't right, didn't Parnell tell him that if anyone found out,that Murphy would be hauled in as an accomplice?
However, I think that if Murphy went to the police immediately after the abduction, they probably would have gone easier on him. He went along with Parnell until they went their separate ways, and never once said a word about it, until of course he was caught.
