Parnell arrested

Kenneth Parnell, the kidnapper of Steven Staynor was arrested in january attempting to purchase a four year old child. If convicted he might spend the rest of his behind bars

reply

if you dont mind me saying this, Parnell should of been behind bars for the rest of his life for what he did to Steven and that other little boy, he is one sick puppy if you ask me

reply

"Parnell should of been behind bars"

It's "should've."

reply

He shouldn't even be alive. It makes me ill to think that he is.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

reply

"Why are you pointing that out? It's irrelevant - you could understand what they meant clearly, you don't need to critisise (english spelling) their use of the english language.

While we're on it though, technically it's "should have" - should've is just lazy... "

No, "should've" is informal diction, a very real part of the English language.

reply

You're right he should've been behind bars so you agree, if you don't, may god have mercy.

reply

Yes, I do agree 100% with starwarslady and WHITEROSALINA - Parnell IS a sick puppy, and he SHOULD stay behind bars for the rest of his (perverted) life.
But I have to admit - the way Parnell TALKED, with just a bit of a hillbilly drawl, made me crack up from time to time. In fact, shortly after NBC ran the movie for the last time in 1991 (before Warner Bros. syndicated it to local stations), I told some friends of mine about how Parnell talked, and we soon adopted a new "alternate title" for this film: "Aet Yer Baens! Parnell!"
(Another line of Parnell's that sounded funny was when he told Steven before he made him eat the green beans, "Either yew aet 'em or yew git a spankin'!")

reply

Well, maybe the way some people talk can sound funny, even if it isn't meant to be. But Parnell was an insane monster and hopefully now is behind bars forever and the Stayner family can have some peace. Now maybe this year the same thing will happen to the Goldman family when Simpson goes on trial again.

reply

The first time I watched this movie I cried cuz of what that a$$hole did! I was so digusted and couldn't believe some1 could do that to a kid. I'm surprised Steven's parents didn't hire some1 to go after him for destroying their son mentally, and for hurting him physical, that sick jerk.

reply

good i hope he gets it up the a$$ for the rest of his life

reply

how was he trying to buy a kid?

reply

how was he trying to buy a kid?

K-mart had a super sale on minors last month, but I think Parnell was caught in the "Ten items or less isle" with eleven items (although he claims a dozen eggs are ONE item) He was brought in and recognized.

how many years did he get for steven?

reply

in the ''movie'', i dont think he even got years, wasn't it only months?! sick!

''chocolatchippedygood!'' J.D.

reply

i'm not sure. no matter what he got it wasn't enough. thank God it's a lot more strict today.

reply

What what what?
This guy wasn't caught until LAST YEAR??

I'm really not to say much to this story - I missed the second part of this movie back when they showed it on TV here in Finland.

Has this guy been kidnapping children all these long years? Thihs whole fu**ing decade?!

How's this possible?
Didn't Steven tell folks who that man was, what is he doing and...and...
Oh, I know this guy whad been physicaly hurting him, maybe even taking sexual advance over him but still. Wasn't he safe aready?
God damnit I need to see the last part of the movie.

Or if this is written down as a book then rather read that too.

I only know Steven's story to the point where he ran away with that other child and if I remember correctly our guy was chasing them down?

It was years and years ago when i saw the first part...

I just came to think of this story too as I saw the movie "The Deep End of the Ocean" just yesterday on TV.

I have to know everything. :P

Whatever has happened after Steven, no matter how long it has been, I DO hope the man gets a life - tightly behind bars.
Gosh!

I can only imagine how already a 7-year old child feels finding himself/herself in that situation. A child who remembers his/her real life, real parents.

reply

i know that he was arrested. he only got a few years though for some reason. i think because it was back in the early 80's and the laws were different. i think they figured that steven stayed with him willingly in the later years even though it was to protect his life. it's sad that he didn't get much time. he prolly molested boys all those years. i wonder how long hes in jail for now...

reply

I just saw the movie on lifetime, he got 25 years to life for trying to buy that little boy. sick!! it's just sick!!!

reply

To the Finnish guy, Stevie painfully recounted
everything that slug did to him, and because were
different back then, the judge suspended a seven
year sentence because he already got one for the
Timmy White deal. So he only got 20 months for
the Stayner case, which is a little under two years.
He was out of jail by 1985, and thought it would be
cute to work in a teen center, where they had no idea
who he was.

Upon the airing of the film, he beat it outta there.
The moron had escaped a lenghty sentence in the Stayner
case and had been free for years, and then he goes and
tries to buy a kid and gets 25 years. Idiot. He is
72 now, and will likely die in there, getting lots of the
kind of sex he likes. Except this time he'll be the victim.

Lifetime Movie Network's re-airing today did a great job
providing the update to Parnell's trial which only ended a
couple months ago. Nice touch on a 15-year-old movie, where
other tv films that old become forgotten.

reply

One thing that disturbs me ( well, besides the fact that he only served 5 years in prison) is the fact that Parnell was free for 14 years before this latest incident( attempting to buy a child).
What was he doing that whole time???
How many children did he molest. I don't believe for one minute that he "quit" sexually abusing children during that period- not a repeat offender like Parnell.
Sadly, there are most likely children that he victimized out there somewhere.

reply

ws this 25 years for the kid he abducted when steve was till wit him or was this recently?

reply

He only served a mere 5 yrs. for kidnapping/abusing Steve & kidnapping that little 5 yr. old - sickening isn't it?!! Especially considering he had a prior conviction at that time for another molestation charge years earlier.

He got 25 yrs. for the most recent charge ( trying to buy a little boy- undoubtedly for sexual purposes).

reply

that's sick. God know what he was doing during all those years...

At about the same time this was shown here in the uk they showed another true life case involveing a girl held for a number of years (on a trailer park ?) only a few miles from her real family , can anyone tell me the name of the tv film ? the girl? where and when it was ? from memory she was unhappy after her return tto he real family and after becomeing a addict (drink or drugs i cant remember which) left home and was found dead a short time after ?

I found an interview with Parnell from 2000. This was before his arrest for trying to buy the 4-year-old.
As of 2000, when the article was written, Parnell was living under his real name, which means that people in the neighborhood who live within a certain distance of him have to be alerted that a sex offender is living at that address.
In the article, he admits to doing everything he was accused of. If you're interested, here's the link:

It just goes to show you, it doesn't matter how old they are, these types of offenders DO NOT STOP. Parnell should have gotten a much stiffer punishment for kidnapping and molestation. And how many more crimes has he committed that we don't know about? I can't help but wonder what he was up to in those years between his release and his recent arrest. Let's hope that he and other offenders like him receive harsher sentences for their atrocities, and that Parnell spends the remainder of his life incarcerated.

The weird thing in that above link is that the writer visited Daniel Horowitz, the lawyer whose wife was just murdered near San Franisco. I feel extremely saddened at her death, but also feel it's a sort of "what goes around, comes around". Horowitz defends the scum of the earth like Parnell, and now Horowitz is in his own hell, losing his wife.

Back to Parnell. He was not charged in the abduction of Steven because of the statute of limitations which was 2 years or maybe 3 years. What they got him on was the abduction of Timmy. I moved out of Ukiah not long after the case was busted wide open but kept in touch on the case from San Diego. I was shocked that he pulled this trying to buy a child. I am also surprised that the neighbors put up with him in the same neighborhood but that was then. Nowadays the neighbors are up in arms no matter where the perpetrator is released to.

Sorry, I know this post is five years old and nobody cares, but seriously?! Horowitz got what he deserved for defending Parnell, aka doing his job? Wow, what a disgusting attitude. You'd think people would be happy we're not living in the middle ages anymore...
