I wish they'd let this guy get back to making major motion pictures. We all sorely need his off-the-wall wackiness in this dire state of filmdom.

I do not think anyone is stopping him. I think he just went a different path working on television shows for Nickelodeon. A steady pay check can be pretty appealing. John Cusak's comments too him during the filming of One Crazy Summer probably bothered him also.
He was rumored a few years ago to be working on a movie about a dad trying to create the best birthday ever for his son called the Big One 3 or something like that, but since reading about it nothing ever became of it.
It has to do with how well his films did. The two previous films he did were not box office successes and neither was this one, where he was brought in to replace another director.
shareHolland is returning to movies - he is making a film called "Multiplex." I sure hope Diane Franklin gets a role as well.
