The “Rage” Speech

Dr. Loomis’ speech to Michael in the woods about controlling his rage is one of the most brilliant moments in the series. It’s one of the few times when Loomis or anyone really tries to reach Michael on an emotional level to get him to stop his killing spree. I also like the more subdued use of the “Michael Myers” theme as the scene ends like there is more of a sense of (false) finality like this is going to be the last Halloween film, which it was for 6 years.

Imagine witnessing what Loomis witnessed. Shooting Michael 6 times in the first movie only to see him get up and walk away with no medical attention needed. Then he sets Michael on fire in the 2nd movie at the hospital and he wakes up after a 10 year coma and then he gets blasted by about 20 shotgun rounds at the end of Part 4 only to come back again in Part 5.

I'd imagine anyone would go insane after seeing that. Surprised Loomis wasn't a chain smoker. But, he did take that shot of whiskey from that religious guy who picked him up in Part 4.

Trying to "reach" Michael is one of the reasons this movie sucks. He's an immortal mass murderer and 4 movies into his run, we try to redeem him? Yeah, that's a no from me.

Yeah, why even try to do anything original at all with it, eh?

It's a good moment--for the 5th installment of a slasher series, a brilliant one. But a lot of H5 was like that, trying to take the movies in some new and more interesting directions instead of just repeating the same old routine. It's criminal how underappreciated it is.
