A Great Slasher Film

This is usually near the bottom of the franchise when people ranks the series, and the clown cops, Myers mansion and 1 year sleep are definitely red flags for the film. But these things aside, I thought that Halloween 5 was everything it could be, and I prefer it to 4 by a long shot. This time characters aren't just no name cops, there's dramatic tension between Loomis and Lloyd, it has the guts to kill off a previous survivor whether we like her or not, the death scenes are more creative and actual 'theme scenes', and here's the kicker: I think Tina is the best character in the film.

Some of my positives are actually negatives for a lot of people, but I think it works, has a great gothic vibe, it has noticeable talent behind the director's eye, and Harris is given so much more than a "whiny child" role. And Cookie Woman. I see it as a stand alone film, and I place it up there with the first 3.

I agree. Halloween 5 is a highly underrated horror film. It has it's plot flaws, but it has excellent cinematography to create a dark and spooky atmosphere. Also, unlike a lot of the other Halloween films, this one actually feels like it takes place on Halloween with the decorations, Halloween party scenes, and people dressed up in costume. The entire 3rd act in the Myer's mansion has some very suspenseful and scary moments. My favorite scene is the one in which Loomis talks to Michael in the woods about controlling his rage. Such a great horror film!

I'm pretty sure he was quoting the woods scene from the film.

I really love Halloween 5. Yes it has flaws, but what movie is perfect? I love the entire 3rd act in the Myers house especially, culminating in the best Loomis/Myers confrontation in the series.

It's pretty much terrible from start to finish. Bad writing, acting, Loomis is totally unlikeable in this one, bad editing, bad photography...how anyone could prefer this to 4 or any other entry in the series is the one truly frightening thing about this movie.

I love the acting, editing and photography. Subjective.

I like how Loomis is actually given something to do. How people place Halloween 4 up as the best sequel in a lot of places weirds me out. What a lifeless film.

In lots of ways Halloween 4 is very similar to the original, so I’m not surprised that most people like it.

Even though I never disliked this movie, it was always one of my least favorites in the Halloween series. To me, it was just an uneven movie that suffered from some very over-the-top performances. Now, however, I think it's a very solid movie that is, in some ways, creepier than most of the Halloween films.

I don't think it holds a candle to its predecessors, though.
