The score is so powerful

I agree, the score was quite something. And surprisingly so not "80's-ish".

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs

AGREED!!! One of Top 5 movie scores of ALL TIME.....the music in the final assault scene on Ft Wagner is the BEST for any military battle scene in ANY movie EVER....

27 years after not being nominated for best picture, this makes me smile...thank you for this post.

A good score comes from you being able to vividly remember parts of the movie just from the audio alone. This score is the finishing touch of gloss on a superb motion picture. It's brilliant.
