Raheem
I find it interesting that the character elicits such gut reactions. Clearly he is a bully and not at all happy that other ethnic groups have moved into the area. For example the scene where he goes into the bodega to buy "D" batteries for his radio. He treats the Korean shop owners like dirt and bullies them. The scenes at Sal's is also another example. I'm not saying that Sal had the right to bash the boombox with the baseball bat but Raheem should have also showed Sal some respect and lowered the volume. It's his pizza restaurant so he can have whomever he wants on the walls. Raheem's death was unfortunate and it could have been avoided had the cop not used his baton as a weapon. I don't think it was intentional and even the other officers were saying it was enough. I think when Mookie threw the trash can through the window it was to save Sal's life and also out of frustration. To me Mookie's motivations were clear. I don't buy the argument that African-Americans can't be racist. I think they can just like Buggin Out was towards the runner who accidently stepped on his sneaker.
