A "hood" movie?

I can't tell if this is a hood movie or not. Bedford–Stuyvesant didn't seem like that bad of an area from the looks of it. I didn't see any prostitution, gang violence, or crack cocaine.

Not a hood movie.
No drive-bys and no thugish blacks.
Remember hip-hop hadn't gone mainstream yet around the country.
That didn't start till the 90s'.
